The V-2 was the first long-range guided balistic missile and first rocket to go to space, developed during World War 2. It is a German rocket that bombed Allied targets during the war, and when Germany collapsed, the Allied forces and the Soviets raced to capture German manufacturing sites and techolongy. After that, the U.S developed the V-2 sounding rocket, a standard V-2 where the explosive warhead in the nose cone was replaced by a scientific instremunt package.
