The origins of the SF-99C, the canard delta version, trace back through a lineage of aircraft developments. Initially, there was the SF-99, a naval aircraft distinguished by its teal color scheme, designed to blend with the ocean and enhance stealth capabilities in maritime environments. The "S" in SF-99 stands for stealth, indicating its primary design objective.

Following the success of the SF-99, the Air Force adapted the design to create the SF-99B. This variant incorporated changes to better suit aerial combat and operations over land, while maintaining the stealth features. The SF-99B's development led to the further evolution of the aircraft into the SF-99C. This latest iteration introduced a canard delta wing configuration, improving maneuverability and aerodynamic efficiency, further enhancing the aircraft's performance and stealth characteristics.
