Take MIT's ion plane concept, add a fusion reactor, and adapt the design to accomodate a supersonic jet, and you've got yourself the XIA-01. Fueled by xenon, this fully electric supersonic aircraft can reach a velocity of mach 3.7 at an altitude of 34km. Say goodbye to fossil fuels, and say hello to electric propulsion.

This was a very impressive build. Went 1474km to get to Mach 3.65 at 34.8km altitude and at a lift/gravity equilibrium with 15 degrees AoA. Exceeded 1400 m/s.
One question: how would a fusion reactor improve the performance of an ion engine?
