In Saturday's Qualifiy Roland Ratzenberger's Simtek—Ford Cosworth suffered a catastrophic structure failure of the front wing , which directly caused the car to lose control and collided with a concrete barrier at extremely high speed at the Villeneuve(T5).The impact force of over 500 Gs instantly took Roland's life.

Two Laps after Race Resume. Senna sliding off the circuit at Tamburello(T4) and hitting the barriers. Unfortunately the seemingly innocuous accident, thought to have been caused by a steering failure, resulted in a suspension arm punching through the cockpit and smashing into Senna's helmet.
