Ever since its introduction in 2004, the Delta IV Heavy has been the rocket of choice for the most modern US Military satellites. It was a reliable, powerful and tried launch vehicle. This however came with a cost - more specifically, US$440.000.000, making it unsuitable for most NASA missions. However, being one of the most powerful launch vehicles ever designed, NASA agreed to pay for it once, when it launched the Parker Solar Probe. Its high cost ultimately led to its demise, and it was retired on April 9th 2024, replaced by the Vulcan Centaur in its role.
