The HL-2 Idaho Block B supports crewed missions and is capable of putting 4 astronauts on a transfer orbit to Luna. The Block B variant sheds the 4 PHoenix SRBs of the Block A cargo variant due to the higher operational risk posed by SRBs and the lower payload requirement. The HL-2B has an integrated Launch Escape Tower designed for both launch pad aborts and in atmosphere aborts. The abort system has increased safety procedures to prevent inadvertant "punch-out" by the crew.
The HL-2B currently runs on the most advanced and capable version of the ISS Auto Launch program, ISSAL V5, which can now put the rocket on any possible orbit around Droo, including highly eccentric orbits, high altitude orbits, and retrograde orbits. The program is also now accurate to within a kilometer for most orbits.
