Phobos is "hot launched" (the missile rocket fired during launch) and releases the launcher. Upon reaching a pre-set distance, the seeker causes the missile to be exploded, launching twelve separate, self-propelled MIRV missies. The MIRVs fire their own engines and then fire the target settings, cluster around the central missile, or break away to their own targets. The missile's central thrusters burn and use inertial guidance and GPS to drop towards its target. The MIRVs impact the target, detonating their small first-impact warheads. Less than a second later, the other main detonates, many more will likely result in three big explosions.
