The L-4 Expermental Hovering platform is exactly what the name states it is. It is powered by 4 jet engines and has enough fuel to hover for hours. This was mostly a test but here are some potential uses for this thing:
A spotlight thats hovers
Transport for small vehicles and astronauts
Fuel carrier
High altitude launch platform (Although you should probably modify the engines to trade some fuel efficency for thrust)
and some other things that i havent yet thought of yet
