Vanguard 2 was launched on Feburary 17th, 1959 and was the second satellite part of the United States Project Vanguard. Vanguard 2 (2E before its proper launch) was another weather satellite similar to Vanguard 1 which measured Air Density as it orbited. Vanguard 2 didn’t use solar cells and only obtained power from a set of batteries housed in the main body. Vanguard 2 remained in contact for a short time only until March 15th, 1959. Vanguard 2 had several failed launches the first being Vanguard 2A on April 29th, 1958 the second being Vanguard 2B on May 28th, 1958 the third being June 26th, 1958 and the last failed launch being September 26th, 1958. Vanguard is also still orbiting and remain for another 300 years thanks to it high location in Earth’s Low Orbit.
