In 1947, the B-47 made its maiden flight, and it went up against Convair and a bunch of Martin Aircraft. The USAAF, and later USAF, had a high liking for the three-crew aircraft. Holding two pilots in the cockpit, and a navigator/bomber inside the nose. It had a great speed, and pilots of it noted it was like a fighter jet

It was put in service with the Strategic Air Command in 1951, flying routes over Russia along with the Convair RB-36, and also some B-50 Superfortresses. It proved to be extremely successful. It was capable of penetrating further than other aircraft of the time, and it stayed in service until the early 70s. The Boeing company also made the B-52, which replaced the B-36, and eventually the B-47.
