Cargo Star Horizontal Lander – Vehicle Concept
"The primary function of the Cargo Star Horizontal Lander is to simultaneously carry crew and cargo to a lunar surface outpost site or sortie location. Figure 4 shows the general arrangement of the Horizontal Lander, which is sized for four crew and a seven-day surface stay, and global access (1250 m/s LOI delta-V, and 1900 m/s descent delta-V) using four liquid oxygen/liquid hydrogen-fueled RL10-derivative engines. The vehicle is built around a large central cargo bay located on the Descent Stage, which also houses the engines and propellant tankage."
I've spent the last couple of weeks working on this on and off, and feel decently proud of it. I started this project, because I thought that the Cargo Star was a neat little concept, and the shape of the lander allowed me to test out the recently added Clamp feature.
As always, the AG's are labeled, and I'm 90% sure the staging is correct. It's a very slow lander, so I suggest using timewarp conservatively. The RCS on the ascent stage are also finicky if you timewarp during ascent, so I suggest turning them off during ascent, and only using them for rendezvous. The surface habitat and the center fuel tank of the ascent stage have crew capacity, but due to the fact that I XMLed the parts, you can't add crew in the designer, so you will have to add crew on a separate mission.
