Shabol

Other Name(s): [None]

Pronunciation: Sha - bowl

"Desolate Domain of Ravaging Calamity"

no US2 reference-sorry :(

inspiration: Brigo

[Note: The equatorial ridge and the crystal plains are of my original ideas; I opted for a moon with a large crater, and decided to build more on top of that.]

2nd moon from Vortís. Lies in beyond the orbit of Uttekesh.

Lore:
Shabol is one of Vortís' moons, and is the smallest. Despite that, it is much more popular than Uttekesh. Its orbit is also very chaotic, having a high inclination and slight eccentricity. The characteristics of this moon are off the charts. Most of the "phenomena" are unexplainable. This is because of two factors: the interaction with the Hyperants, and a collision of Vortís' third and forgotten moon, Barxuruc. Barxuruc was the smallest of the trio and had an orbit very similar to that of Shabol's. Over time, gravity brought them closer and closer until they both impacted. Due to Shabol's larger size, it survived the impact. There are also numerous craters around the main large crater. The central crater has been called the Qauleen Crater. Although most scientists are baffled by how the moon remained stable and did not crumble, this is the doing of the Hyperants. It is unknown as to what Shabol's use was for in the Hyperean past, though we can only speculate. The evidence is obvious, in the form of the large flat on Shabol's southern axis. These flats are composed of strange crystalline structures, exhibiting strange properties. They can float, are durable, and are extremely resilient to drastic temperatures. They are also able to conduct electricity really well. Extracting this material—called korelite—is very difficult due to it’s said properties. Special tools and procedures are required to get even just a small amount. It should be quite obvious that Hyperants extract and use this with ease.
Moving on, another considerable feature to take note of is the ridge that sits on the equator of the moon. It appears to be dotted with craters ranging in many sizes. This is because, in the distant past, Shabol was a large asteroid sitting within one of Arkkanna's rings. Over time, Shabol gained the ridge, along with the craters. This is the product of Shabol clearing its orbit, where it laid on the outskirts of the third ring. Eventually, Vortís got a hold of the moon and captured it. The gravity and tidal forces of the other Arkkannian moons caused Shabol to migrate to the inner Vortan System, which also led to the impact and destruction of Barxuruc.
Overall, this moon is such a twisted and warped beauty, from the Qauleen Crater to the Crystal Plains, it offers the best views from Vortís and Uttekesh, especially if you are after those close eclipses.

    Explaining the pictures:
    • 3rd pic is taken in the Crystal Plains, aka the south pole.
    • 4th pic is Vortís eclipsing Shabol. You can tell by the city lights.
    • 6th pic is Uttekesh and Vortís seen together.

also i cooked way too hard for an asteroid tbh...
also considering how fast i made this, this could have been one of the best planets (if it were one that is), but my mind had other plans🙃

It will be part of a system @DeepSpaceIndustries called the Antarius System, which I expect to release in December. Most of the other stuff you probably saw in my post (i.e. Andrios, Katharaeas, Lyrafoth Arkkanna) are all part of that system, or, they are from the same universe.

I am not sure @67milo. Maybe, but I don't know which or what I wanna do.

@Tallisar, do you want to do a collab on a planet?

@Tallisar but i want more; interstellar drives, stars that produce actual light that aren't the center one, and even other systems added to the stock "system".

The thing is @Isosceles51, is that it is already a “feature”. Just do sum xml editing and violà.

@Tallisar they should also add interstellar as it would be pretty cool. then it would also be able to be the interstellar space sim ksp2 should have been.

@Tallisar Having stats isnt that big of a deal for me, It would be better if planet code was reworked so you could adjust a planet's axial tilt instead of it always being 0. Yeah and if star lighting was reworked to support multiple stars with their light sources id accumulate another 6k hours in less than 100 hours of real time, just from that one thing alone.

Oh hell yeah @deepfriedfrenchtoast. That’s what we actually need. Plus, they should add basic parameters of selected planets in map view. Like if you were to select a planet or moon, there can be collapsible tab that shows basic stats like size, gravity, rotational period, atmosphere stuff, etc. etc. Oh, and can’t forget the ability to toggle scaled space in map view or not.

@Tallisar If after like 2 years when Simple planes 2 is done they finally add proper eclipses and make it so rings show up in map view id likely have another 6 thousand hours in no time.

Oh yeah. It just so happened to darken the terrain, so I just chose that moment to take the picture. Also @deepfriedfrenchtoast, if they ever had extra star light and eclipse shadows, I will be binge playing this game XD

How did you get the eclipse in the 4th photo to also darken the terrain, I guess its just because the star was already below the horizon. It would go so hard if eclipses actually darkened the surface of the object being eclipsed. Id probably sink another 2000 hours into this game if that happened.
