One more point, relating to earlier discussion in this thread about flying planes. The problem with jerky flying is mostly that the autopilot is broken for planes, and defaults to on. Every plane I have flown jerks up and down horribly if you don't manually turn it off.

And if you are flying with a game controller, you need to click the left stick down as soon as you are in the air, to change from yaw to roll, or you will struggle to steer. This, of course, is not explained anywhere in-game.

Finally I managed to complete the task, by downloading this craft, which does everything automatically :

Thanks to @joekalaam1980. And to everyone who has tried to help!

@Activatewindows thank you for posting that, but even with that ship the task is still impossible for me. Using your design I have managed to land on the drone ship close enough to trigger the "visited drone ship" landmark several times, but to complete the contract and thus unlock the DSC you have to put it right on the white dot, and I just can't do it. I have been trying for hours. It's extremely frustrating.

Most new players trying the game for the first time will go straight to career mode, get stuck very quickly, and give up, most likely. Career Mode clearly has not been playtested properly. You can run out of money in the early stages quite easily, and even if you get past that you soon get to tasks that have to be completed to progress, but aren't doable, like this one.

Most new players won't even find the tutorials hidden (and I do mean hidden) in sandbox mode. It's a shame because in many ways this game is better than "that other game", but it's let down badly by a lack of help for new players, and the poor design of career mode.

@t4zcomz most downloaded vehicles won't launch in career mode. If I try I get the message "This craft has one or more issues and can't be launched at this time". When I look at the issues, I find a couple of hundred errors. Some are that it uses parts that I haven't unlocked yet, some are that various "modifiers" are "outdated" and need to be replaced. The Arrow 2.0 self-lander, for example, produces 190 such "issues" in career mode in my game. It works fine in sandbox mode, where I can watch it doing its thing (very impressive), but I am not able to diagnose exactly how it is doing it, except that it is using Vizzy, which the game hasn't taught me.

The stock SimpleTrainer produces eighty errors if I ty to launch it in career mode. I can launch it in sandbox mode, but like every Juno plane I have tried, it really doesn't fly too well. If I roll it it turns (sometimes), very slo-o-owly, while the nose gently drops. The only way to get a less gentle turn is to stand it on a wingtip and pitch up, whereupon it jerks round in chunks, trying to wobble back the way it came after each jerk. I am not using yaw. Pitching up is always very jerky - pull the nose up and it wobbles up and down several times before settling on a new flight angle.

Maybe it's a problem with my setup, but I don't think so as I downloaded it from Steam onto a brand new high end PC just a few days ago. The game runs very smoothly and doesn't glitch or crash.

I guess I could summarise my problems as 1) Career mode really isn't very good at teaching the game, frequently asking you to do things that it hasn't taught you; and 2) the planes don't work very well.

@t4zcomz I can download someone else's rocket that can land automatically and I have done that, as I mentioned, but you can't launch them in Career Mode, only in sandbox mode.

I am finding that the "stock craft" that come with the game are equally hard to fly, so I don't think it's just my plane design. They won't turn smoothly, you have to roll them and then pull them up in a series of jerks.
