@ThatNewGuy Welcome to the community! honestly I see people build a little bit of everything so there's bound to be something for every taste or need in the crafts section
As for the winglets, a quick fix could be adding a smaller wing at a 90 deg. angle, and tweaking the drag of the main wing, simulating the reduced drag effect of the winglet that way. In the future though, it might be nice to have an actual winglet part, although I'm not sure how willing or open the devs might be to adding more aircraft parts.
I have given the "wing" issue some thought myself, and it occurs to me that since they also have SimplePlanes to worry about, I wasn't sure how open they would be to more suggestions from me or anyone else on changing/tweaking adding aircraft parts to this game (and possibly hurting their other game in the process). Also that depends on whether enough people in the community agree or see a suggestion as necessary to have. I guess all we can do is suggest and see what happens!
I put my review up earlier today, I was waiting for full release before submitting a review but I don't mind reviewing now if it helps the cause. I also marked other reviews as helpful, not sure if that helps but there u go.
I disagree that this would make the game too complex. We already have procedural rocket engines and jet engines which arguably make this game no longer simple, and that's even before full release.
I think having struts and fuselages of different materials is a great idea and it wouldn't be too hard to implement, however the number of materials suggested above might be a bit too much. To keep things simple, put a material-type selection menu in the build panel, and it would let you chose between 2 or 3 materials. 2 or 3 materials per structural part is still simple.
@yopo why don't you post this in the suggestion area?
@AndrewGarrison @PhilipTarpley I wasn't expecting to see my Falcon Heavy in the video and I was stoked when I did! thank you! you guys certainly outdid yourselves with this update, thank you for all your hard work!
@Kell Is that all you had to do? I thought you had to put in in the game folder, I'm asking because I also don't know, I just download it directly in the game because it's easier that way.
For me stats all the way, specifically how accurate thrust and Isp in both SL and vacuum are in the replica as to the real engine. Aesthetics second, although I like an accurate visual representation as well, sometimes certain details cannot be accurately reproduced (i.e. thermal protectve foil on Rocketdyne F1) and due to view angles and the jet of flames going out of them most details on engine are hidden or lost in the noise anyway.
However, I do appreciate aesthetics over stats on certain occasions, such as the engine replicas you have made, since they are on a test stand it is nice to play with them and look at the detail of the plumbing and other parts on the engine as well as on the stand.
@MarioG @PlanesofJundroo I hope I can do it justice! either way maybe this is also a good opportunity to get word out about the game with the anniversary right around the corner
@RAF100 as it happens I just shared a Falcon Heavy a few days ago, the link is HERE. All you need is to make an Arabsat and stick it on top and you're good to go!
@swope I can vouch for that, I tried to land 2 boosters and the core but even with slow motion and pausing a bunch of times it is basically impossible to land 3 craft plus keep flying the payload into orbit. Best scenario is landing only the core with expendable boosters and getting the payload to orbit but you would have to pause then switch craft a few hundred times and a ton of patience.
I think with mod support in upcoming updates and all the great spacecraft that you and other veteran builders are sharing with the community it will help to attract many new players.
I would love to record and stream some of my designs (my computer suck though) however I would LOVE to see some stream or at least YT videos, I also think some collaborations between some of you veteran builders/explorers would make for some great videos, we could then share these video links on reddit and other social media platforms.
Additionally since the game has gotten a few very nice updates including the addition of procedural jet/rocket engines, when the game is nearing full release it might be worth asking Scott Manley and other similar YouTubers to cover the game again, I know they have already covered it in the past but the game will be much more different and will have many new things in addition to all the many craft, mods and modded solar systems at that point.
@pedro16797 I might try that, I haven't messed with XML yet and I was putting it off lol :P
I have had success joining struts and tanks as per your example but not luck with only interstages yet, so I just put some short struts on the end of the side interstages and that works for now :P
I thought I saw shock diamonds earlier today after the update, what a nice surprise! Thank you for fixing the rotation/relocation gizmo tool bugs! Shucks on the lowering of ISP on rocket engines though, I was actually going to suggest ISP be raised on some of the engines. Would you consider implementing 1 type of "elite" engine with much higher ISP (pushing 400), and higher chamber pressures? (as in the latest-gen rocket motors from SpaceX or Blue Origin) that would be an amazing final (conventional) engine to have on a campaign mode tech tree @AndrewGarrison
I tried making a pseudo-skycrane using the pistons but my build suffers form oscillations and just about tears itself apart (hence why I only shared the rover and not the sky crane I built for it). There are other curiosity-type rovers in the "crafts " section complete with skycrane/landers of their own, I can't speak for their real-life accuracy but you may want to check them out and see if you like them, from the pictures I saw they looked very detailed and may have what you're looking for
