Ok so I spent over 10 mins trying to find this “sandbox challenge” with no luck... to me it sounded like you have built a JUICE spacecraft (a bit like the satellites in career mode) and we would be tasked with building a rocket to send it to Tydos.
How do I access this JUICE spacecraft in sandbox mode? Or do we have to build it ourselves and make our own challenge in our imagination? I don’t really get it, sorry.
I love the idea of the game providing us with payloads and challenging us to send it to certain places. There could be cost & size restrictions to respect, that would be very challenging and fun! I just don’t enjoy As much if I have to build all the payloads myself and make up my own missions in my mind... that’s why I’ve been enjoying career mode a lot, finally some goals to achieve and progression in the game.

I have started career mode again and this time I’m really careful not to spend more than what each mission gives... actually it’s really good now cause I even try to optimize my crafts so that I can finish each mission for as cheaply as possible 😆
I have 47 millions now 🤑 My business is doing well!

@SamTheFox what are crafts with negative cost? How do you find them? Weird to think there would be rockets that pay you to launch them...

  • Profile image

@Polygons yes that’s what I’m thinking... will have to restart career mode from the beginning and be really careful with the cost of launching from now on. It sucks cause I had gotten pretty far already! Ah well

@SamTheFox oh...! I just saw the arrows on top where you can change <part> <drag> <config> <Parachute> 🤦‍♂️
Wow this game has a lot of parameters that you can adjust! 😳 That's great, always something new to learn... But at what point do we stop calling it "SIMPLE" rockets? 😂 Lol
It's getting pretty complicated imo but I won't complain about it haha 😅
Anyway, thanks a lot for walking me through it 🙏 it's greatly appreciated. Sorry for all the questions but yeah obviously I still have a lot to learn.

@SamTheFox oh thanks! I hadn’t seen this... but it’s still unclear what exactly I have to edit in order to be able to deploy the parachute in lower density atmosphere 🤔
    Activated? True? False?
    Stage override?
    Materials?
It’s all very confusing 🤷🏼‍♂️ I just wish we could simply slide that adjustment bar into lower atmosphere settings ...

    2.6 years ago
  • Profile image

@SamTheFox where do you see an option to open parachutes in thinner atmosphere in the tinker panel? 🤔
It’s not there. I literally can’t land my rover on Cylero anymore because the parachutes won’t open until a few seconds before crashing at high speed... the best I was able to manage so far, while aiming to land inside one of the deepest crater, was crashing at only 40m per second 🤷🏼‍♂️
Cause otherwise I can’t find any other way to open my parachutes in less than 0.012 kg/m3 atmosphere density

    2.6 years ago
  • Profile image

    @SamTheFox I didn’t see any “hidden properties” 🤔
There is an option for “advanced properties” but all it shows is “stability modifier” 🤷🏼‍♂️
No option to open and deploy parachutes in thinner atmosphere equivalent to above 39km altitude on Droo...

@Sharandeep981 OK thanks guys for the info... Maybe I will keep my iPad Pro then.
To be honest I'm a bit disappointed that there are only 3 other planets in SR2 :(
No inner planets and no moons at all around other planets is a real downer... I am really hoping for a future upgrade that adds more worlds to explore in the game (like there was in SR1, adding a comet & moons around the gas giants)

@14ROVI you think even if I get an android now they will change it later to not be able to run mods in the future? 🤔
Or maybe you mean that future Android devices will no longer allow mods...

@plane918273645 yeah I understand that, but I thought the saved files didn't take that much space compared with the actual running sandbox.

@plane918273645 "there isn't a need for more than one"
I literally just explained how I used this feature so much in SR1 and it was very useful to have... I still have dozens of saved games at different stages of their missions.
Since I've been playing SR2 I have wished multiple times to be able to save my games to come back to it later.
There is much more of a need to save sandboxes than there is one to save a "launch location" in space 🙄

@JastroOne1 damn, I should have taken this into consideration when I chose to buy the iPad Pro over the Samsung tablet! I forgot these mods don't work on Apple devices 😭
I really wish it was part of the game, like available on later updates

@QarabinaKa thanks man! It makes a lot more sense now... These things are not always evident when you first try to figure out the game 😅

@Kell thanks, I tried it and it still doesn't work. It would be great to have the numbers appear automatically as soon as you just touch the circles. But I will play more with that UI setting... I had no idea what it was for (because there is no explanation that appears when you keep your finger on it, like most other settings)
Do you know what the letters UI stand for?

I posted this earlier and then removed it because it appeared to be working at some point but now I realize it doesn't really work most of the time... In fact, information display is one the the things I have the most trouble with in this game. ESPECIALLY not seeing my appoapsis & periapsis values on the screen... The numbers keep disappearing for some reason, often when I need to see them the most :-/
I'm trying to figure out exactly how the game works and it's not easy. I figured when I tap my orbit the appoapsis & periapsis numbers appear for a few seconds only, then they disappear again. I wish we could see the numbers all the time like in Simple Rockets 1

Another thing is the numbers are way too small on a phone screen, I will buy a new tablet so that might improve it tho.
So if someone knows the magic trick to see your periapsis value beside the little orange arrow all the time, please let me know. I need to see it when planning a burn to circularize my orbit, when approaching a planet and I wanna make a correction, or when adjusting my orbit to rendez-vous with another craft for example. Thanks

I already figured it out today while I was in the plane...! There is a setting called "snap angle". You just need to set it to any number instead of zero. I set it to 5 so I can fix my part at any 5 degrees interval :-)
Love this tool! Combined with the symmetry tool it works beautifully for making perfectly symmetrical designs

@PorkyClown3 Ok so I followed your advice and I finally found an answer to my question so I will lay it out here for the OP here because no one has really answered his question and I was also needing to learn...
This is how you find out where the optimal place to make your burn is: First you create a maneuver node roughly at the place you think it should be, create the burn on the maneuver node until your resulting orbit is kinda close to getting a good encounter and obviously you are a little off and not exactly in the exact perfect location for your burn... But here is the magic trick: if you tap & hold the middle of the maneuver node you will see another icon appear that will allow you to manually move the maneuver node from side to side and you will see your resulting orbit change as you move the maneuver node, that way you can place the maneuver node in the best location for your burn and Bingo! Question answered :D
    You're welcome ;-)
I've been wanting to know that for a few days now...

@Allglad if your orbit is inclined (if it goes above and below the equator at 0 degrees) the little grey arrow pointing down would show the exact point where your orbit crosses the equator into "the southern hemisphere" and the arrow pointing up would show where your orbit crosses the equator again into "the northern hemisphere"
At least that's how I understand his explanation and it makes sense to me

  • Profile image

@PorkyClown3 yes but the question is WHERE do you make your burn for the optimal trajectory using the least amount of DeltaV...? I agree with the OP, it takes a lot of trial and error when you have to guess it and requires a bunch of corrections later :-/
In another game called SpaceFlight Simulator, there is a feature that when you target another body, you see a little highlighted area in your orbit where you should make your burn for an encounter with the object... Surely SR2 would have such a feature but where is it?

    +1 5.2 years ago
  • Profile image

@Insanity thanks for the explanation, I will check it later... That would give you an indication as to where to make your burn for the most efficient inclination change. Makes sense.
Now I wish there was a way to know where is the best place to make your burn in order to get a most efficient encounter when targeting the moon or another planet... a bit like in SpaceFlight Simulator game.

Yes! I have the exact same question... What do these means?

    5.2 years ago
  • Profile image

Yes! I have the same question...
When you want to make a hohmann transfer to get an encounter with the moon or another planet, there is a section in your current orbit where you should do your burn in order to get an encounter with the targeted object using the least amount of fuel and best trajectory... Back in Simple Rockets 1 I was always kind of eyeballing it and yes I got better at guessing it with time but it wasn't always the best timing and it took a lot of trial and error 😐
In another game called Spaceflight Simulator there is a feature that shows you exactly where to make your burn for the optimal encounter trajectory... Is there a similar feature in SR2? I can't figure it out even when I target the moon or planet I want to encounter, if someone knows what I'm talking about and could help me that would be awesome 😀
Guessing hohmann transfers timing is kinda frustrating!
